Deck Strategy
Blastoise EX + Vaporeon
Blastoise EX and Vaporeon are the fundamental pillars of this deck. The main objective is to enable Blastoise EX to fully utilize its Hydro Bazooka move, which deals devastating damage. With 3 Water Energies, Blastoise can deal 100 damage. However, if you manage to load it with 2 additional Energies, the attack increases to 160 damage, a value capable of taking down most opposing Pokémon.
In this strategy, Vaporeon serves as the perfect support. Thanks to its Wash Out ability, Vaporeon allows you to move Water Energies from benched Pokémon to the active Pokémon. This means you can continuously recycle Energies, speeding up the use of Blastoise EX’s Hydro Bazooka.
Be careful how you play Vaporeon during the mid and late stages of the game, as it could be vulnerable to Sabrina and easily knocked out. Make sure to have another card, such as Articuno EX, on your bench alongside Vaporeon.
Articuno EX
Articuno EX is the best Pokémon to play as the active Pokémon at the start of the game. Its role is to buy time to prepare Blastoise EX on the bench. With its Blizzard attack, Articuno EX not only deals useful damage to the opponent’s active Pokémon but also hits benched Pokémon, slowing down the opponent’s strategies.
If needed, Vaporeon can support Articuno EX by moving Energies to keep it active and ready to fight. When Articuno EX is about to be knocked out, you can use Leaf to reduce its retreat cost and easily switch to Blastoise EX. Additionally, thanks to Vaporeon, you can transfer all of Articuno EX’s Energies directly to Blastoise.
Leaf
Leaf is an essential support card in this deck. Its ability reduces the retreat cost of the active Pokémon by 2, making it easier to switch from Vaporeon or Articuno EX to Blastoise EX. This is particularly useful in emergency situations when you need to bring Blastoise EX into play quickly to take advantage of Hydro Bazooka.
Misty
Misty is a card that, although dependent on a bit of luck, can make a significant difference in the pace of the game. While Misty doesn’t always guarantee a substantial advantage, its potential to accelerate Energy gain makes it a valuable card. Thanks to Vaporeon, any extra Energy obtained through Misty can be strategically distributed among your Pokémon.
Other Possible Cards
If you are facing decks that challenge you by destroying Vaporeon (using Sabrina) or struggling to draw Eevee, consider adding a second copy of Eevee, replacing one Misty.
