Deck Strategy

Blastoise EX

The Blastoise EX deck revolves around a slow strategy but becomes incredibly powerful once its combo is triggered. Blastoise EX’s move, Hydro Bazooka, delivers devastating damage: it deals 100 damage with 3 Water Energies but can reach 160 damage when the Pokémon has 5 Energies attached. However, this offensive potential requires time and resources, making the deck reliant on support cards to accelerate Blastoise EX’s setup.

Misty

The Misty card is critical for this deck, serving as the main way to prepare Blastoise EX once evolved. Misty allows you to flip coins until you get tails, assigning a Water Energy to a Water Pokémon (such as Blastoise EX) for each heads.
Although Misty is highly effective, it doesn’t guarantee Energies with certainty. For this reason, it’s vital to include at least two copies of Misty in your deck.

Meowth

Meowth is an ideal Pokémon for the early turns. It can be played immediately and, for just 1 Energy, deals 10 damage while letting you draw a card. Its primary role is to facilitate access to Squirtle’s evolutions and other key cards, speeding up the preparation of Blastoise EX.

Other Possible Cards

Kangaskhan is an excellent option for making the deck more resilient and effective against aggressive decks. With its high HP, Kangaskhan can absorb damage in the early game, giving you more time to prepare Blastoise EX. Its move, Comet Punch, can also be useful, allowing you to flip two coins and deal 30 damage for each heads, effectively handling basic Pokémon during the initial stages. To increase your deck’s durability, consider replacing two copies of Meowth with two Kangaskhan.

Articuno is another strong alternative to Meowth or Potion, adding versatility to your deck. With its high HP for a basic Pokémon and a move capable of paralyzing opponents, Articuno can be a strategic addition. However, its move requires 3 Energies, which are primarily reserved for Blastoise EX in this deck. Therefore, it’s advisable to include just one copy of Articuno to avoid disrupting the deck’s main strategy.
